a Do it
- Use Chrome or Edge on a computer (they can talk to USB devices; Safari, Firefox and phones can't).
- Plug the console in with a USB-C cable that carries data. It can be on, off, or stuck.
- Press the button and pick the console in the list (it shows up as a USB JTAG/serial debug unit).
- Wait for Done, then unplug. It takes about a minute.
Ready.
What's happening
b Good to know
- The card is not touched. Games, saves, players and screenshots live on the microSD card; this only writes the console's own memory.
- It's the same system updates bring: this page takes it from the update server and checks its signature before writing anything.
- If the console isn't in the list, or connecting fails: unplug it, hold the small B (boot) button on the processor board inside the case, plug it in, let go, and try again. That starts the chip in its built-in loader, which no broken system can stop.
- In USB drive mode the console isn't a serial device. Leave drive mode first, or use the boot button.
- After a flash a console may say the last game crashed. That's expected.
